- So, she's back

and who would have thought, she's back.
The world has changed over the past few years and so have we. I have been notably absent from blogging over the past two years but why? I fell out of love with it. Social media and the need to be seen falls nothing short of a facade. I struggled to get my head around how I could sit here and type about what I am wearing, or doing when the world was falling to pieces.
When you hit your mid twenties you realise there are just bigger, more important things to concentrate on- oh and a pandemic escalates that. However, truth be told Ooohlalaa it's fashion will always have a special place in my life. It is this forum that shaped the life I desired and I worked so hard for it.

The difference between Ooohlalaa it's fashion then and Ooohlalaa it's fashion now, (or maybe I should say the difference between Tashaa then and Tashaa now) is that we are here because we choose to be. I love the runway, I love the industry, I love real talk and I love the voice that online provides to so many. What I do not love is the need to portray picture perfect falsities, and quite simply put that is not what you will find here. I love the power social media haves as a space, but that space is not safe and is filled with illusion.

This blog is home to city life, reality and maybe just a little fun. We don't take ourselves to seriously around here, we grind day to day, we have a highs and we have our lows and we live to no expectations.
From fashion, to travel, to hot topic and just a little sass, Ooohlalaa it's fashion is reborn baby-
Stay gracious, stay humble and join me as I let you know what I have been up to, what may be on the horizon and ... oh, of course I have a few tricks up my sleeve ;)

So, want to talk sassy, city frolicking and your latest style fix?

You didn't go through that for nothing

Hi darlings,
It has been a while so I just thought it was time to check in.
I have spent my last few months working and playing. My goal this year was to chill the f**k out and we just about reached it. Things are a little heavy at the minute with a heavy workload and a hectic lifestyle but I am doing ok and I hope you are to.

The key to pulling myself together these last few months has been keeping myself busy. When I don't spend my days working I keep them as full as possible from morning to evening. Whilst this all sounds great over the past few weeks it has impacted my health slightly forcing me to take a day or two of cancelled plans and relax.

I am so lucky to be surrounded by the greatest support system when the going gets tough. Those closest to me have helped me through some of the hardest times and reminded me exactly what I am capable of.

My last post was about my goals for this coming year and now is the first time I have really looked back and found the time to check in ... not to mention the first opportunity I have given myself some 'me' time to write. I am unconsciously slowly working my way through my list (although I am still working on the nap less and eating healthier part).

Here is your reminder that it is crucial that you check in with your own mental health and ask yourself, 'am I doing ok?'. When the answer isn't as it should be that's when its time to take action. Everyone knows I am incredibly private person (also one of my goals), but I am gradually finding it easier and easier to talk about how I am doing.

Sometimes life gets you down, but you come back stronger than ever. People might talk about this but very few believe it. Find the things that make you happy and eliminate the energy that does not.

Here is a reminder that you've got this. Its you who creates the person you want to be.

Remember, you glow different when you are doing better.

City blues

We all know i'm a self proclaimed city girl but now we have hit the summer months i'm a little over it, it's time for a vacay. There is something I love about the fast pace of the city, the motivation it gives you and the desire and drive it gives you to succeed. Now by no means has that disappeared but my love of it is dwindling, at least in this location. Catch me on the streets of NY, Milan or Pariee and I would be in heaven but i'm in need of a break.

The city, the place where I once loved and thrived, is becoming dark and dangerous, and we aren't talking in a tall, dark and handsome sort of way. The more you put into the less you get out of it but that is just simply not enough to provoke failure. After all I did say when life gives you lemons...
The world has a funny way of working and quite simply it has tested me this year, throwing everything in my path but it's just not enough to break me.

I'm just not ready to give up my city girl persona, but it's time to fall in love with the island for a while.

Watch this space darlings. Things are about to get a little heated.

The Reason

Today marks the third birthday of Ooohlalaa it's fashion, a landmark that up until this moment I never thought I would reach. The reason I did is more important to me than words could ever truly describe.

Whilst I share part of my life online I remain preciously protective over keeping my private life private. I have fought with myself over the past two weeks about whether I would ever write this post however I feel as though it is important that I share this with you.

On the 15th February I lost my best friend.
Over the past year she fought the hardest battle a person could ever face, one that no one could ever imagine. The thing about this is very few knew. Privacy was a trait of hers that allowed her to flourish in life as she embarked on her road to success. No one could ever accomplish the strength she had mentally and physically as she endured reality. Her talent was endless, her passion everlasting and her friendship indescribable.

Since October, when she first entered treatment, life has never been the same for any of us. Whilst you learn to cope during an anxious wait, thoughts overpower. There was never a single second of the day where I didn't think about her. It felt so selfish when you felt such pain as she bypassed challenge after challenge. She was always our priority, nothing else mattered. Along with our very closest this journey also had optimism, power and love throughout. With my two best friends, who shared this heartbreak, we were making it through together.

What many don't know about this wonderful girl is that she was my number one supporter. An artist herself, with talents beyond belief, she was behind me in everything I did. She was the one person who got it. From the very early days of Ooohlalaa it's fashion she was my source of encouragement and motivation. She made me take pride in my work and believed in me when even I didn't believe in myself. She always offered help and praised my efforts. The first thing she asked me when she was well enough was, 'how is Ooohlalaa doing?'. She made it seem like it was the most important thing in the world when she was enduring a challenge not one of us could face.

This is my reason for continuing.
When the world breaks your heart you are willing to give up everything but if I gave up everything what would her support have been for?
She was there from the start and I know she will be here til the finish.
This is the reason we have made it to this third birthday.

Whilst I could post endless photographs, share my thoughts on social media or relive my favourite memories by sharing them, this is not me and this is not us. This privacy has kept our friendship together and it will for eternity.

But what now?
Many think I have been away working or taking myself away from the world but it was time to do so much more. It was time I visit the only city I know that can pull back the pieces and mend my broken heart. Not only is this a city I have always desired to go to but one with such meaning. It wasn't time to leave this period of my life behind, if that is even possible, without cause. I venture with my best friends as we place our heart and soul into this city. One that embraces and marks such life. No one ever expects to suffer such loss in their life. The hole that is left can never be filled and now is the time needed to process this.

This wonderful figure in my life will stay with me everyday.
Whilst she may not be here the four of us will always be together in Paris. The city that brought light in the darkest time.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the continued support over the past three years, it is beyond anything I could have imagined.

All my love,

Conquer the city, be the 'it girl', hello university.

Say hello to a new freedom, ridiculously long summers, a whole new set of friendships and a well respected education, or so it would seem. In other words conquer the city , be bold, strive for success and immerse yourself in the heights of fashion.

Thought train …

The city is yours
You choose how you look
Success is in your hands
Independence is Key

DO- Push the boundaries, go out of your comfort zone
DO- Approach people
DO- Go out even when you do not feel like it, spontaneous nights out are the best
DO- Try different things, activities, societies, clubs
DO- Attend most of your lectures. Have a happy balance between going out and work, you will be surprised how many lectures you are able to turn up to on a few hours sleep.
DO- Live like a student. This is my weakness, £50/60/70 outfits and Marks and Spencers food shopping? I need a little practice.
DO- Take pride in the place you live whether it is only for a year or not

DO NOT- Expect luxury
DO NOT- Stress over work. Talk to your tutor if you are struggling you can find some guidance
DO NOT- Opt for work over going out, unless you are behind. Being organised is one thing, being boring is another.
DO NOT- focus on the fact that 40% is a pass although at many points of your first year this is a welcomed though. Strive to achieve.
DO NOT- put up with a flat/house that is falling apart. Speak up.

Check out my blogpost, 'Dress for success; the art of power powerdressing' http://ooohlalaa-itsfashion.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/dress-for-success-art-of-power-dressing.html

Essentials list

For lectures ...

· A decent sized handbag or tote to accompany your handbag
· Personal organiser or planner for your academic year
· Notebooks, highlighters and stationary
· Tablet- useful to google, make notes, calendar and voice recorder

Fashion ...

· A fabulous coat- warm enough, stylish and one of autumns hottest colours
· Boots- rain, snow … need I say more?
· Umbrella
· Jeans- suitable to wear with anything and a wardrobe basic to making that super cute outfit
· Jumpers, sweaters, cardigans- think winter and cold lecture theatres
· Blazers, Blouses and Skirts- Remember success through powerdressing? Well here is your key, look fabulous, feel fabulous, show you are fabulous
· Sweats- I am not a fan of sweats at all but a pair of Victoria’s Secret campus crops are the way     forward
· An Overnight bag- for visiting home or going away for the weekend
· A range of going out outfits from cocktails to clubbing- these include party dresses, dress shorts, embellished tops, playsuits … girlies this is where your concentration should lie
· Heels, heels and more heels
· Of course you already know your beauty essentials

Bedroom Essentials ...

                                                               · Candles and diffusers
· Photos- Although I do not like displaying photos (personal choice) I can understand why many opt for then especially if you live so far away from home. Instead I choose fashion campaigns to decorate my pin board, this is my place to admire.
· Throws and cushions with a glamorous duvet- Make sure you invest in at least one gorgeous duvet set. The key to a room you’ll love is starting at the focal point which is the bed so make sure you decorate accordingly and you will love it!
· Organisers- Having a clean and organised room clears your mind and makes you feel good about yourself, or so I find.
·  Lightshades and lamps
·  Books/DVDs- Fill your room with your favourite books and DVDs to create a more homely vibe.

University is what you make of it darlings ...
